Buying Investment Trust Shares

Investment trusts are companies listed on the London Stock Exchange and are governed by the UK Listing Authority's rules. The shares are traded on the stockmarket and the share price will move up and down depending on the supply and demand for the shares and therefore the value of an investment could go down as well as up, and you may not get back the amount you invested. You should view any investment in shares as a long term investment.

You should visit the SAINTS page where you can find out more information about the trust and the risks involved

Are there any charges?

Investment trusts incur costs in managing and administering their portfolios and these costs are paid directly by the trusts from their assets, additionally firms offering online dealing services will charge a fee for taking your order. These costs vary from firm to firm; sometimes it can be a flat fee per trade, or sometimes a percentage of the value of the deal is charged, usually with a minimum charge. Sometimes this charge is capped at a certain level. Before proceeding with on-line dealing you should make sure you understand the costs involved.

Seeking Advice

Baillie Gifford does not provide investment advice. If you are unsure whether an investment in shares of an investment trust is suitable for you, you should seek advice from an authorised intermediary.
