"The partnership structure at Baillie Gifford is an added incentive - both to give me something to aim for and because I prefer to work with and for my ultimate boss, as opposed to a faceless corporation."
Baillie Gifford's attraction was its standing in the international financial community as an organisation that was not afraid to build on its reputation to grow its business.
I started my career as a Chartered Accountant in London (then Edinburgh) working with financial clients. Investment markets can be fascinating, but one can only get so excited about auditing the participants so I began to look for new challenges.
Based in the Institutional Clients Department my job involves client liaison and new business pitches. Pension fund trustees can range from Cambridge dons to fork lift truck drivers. I enjoy this diversity enormously, particularly never knowing what I may be asked next and the challenge of staying on top of the ever changing markets.
The partnership structure at Baillie Gifford is an added incentive - both to give me something to aim for and because I prefer to work with and for my ultimate boss, as opposed to a faceless corporation.
Moving to Edinburgh is something I can thoroughly recommend. I have more time for myself and my family, and although I travel to London regularly, I now realise that the best thing about it is the shuttle flight home.
