Training
The most important aspect of training for graduates who join Baillie Gifford is on-the-job training; learning from experienced investors and client service managers. To supplement this, we offer tailored graduate courses and strongly encourage you to study for professional qualifications.
In the first three weeks, you will attend our intensive course on the Baillie Gifford investment process. After your initial three-week induction training, you will join one of our investment teams where you will continue with frequent sessions on subjects such as economics, valuation techniques, dealing and investment styles. This will enable you to build your knowledge of markets and how we make investment decisions.
Another key part of your training is learning how we manage our client relationships and develop our client base. A specialist department, the Institutional Clients Department, is responsible for this aspect of the business, and you will spend a short time in this department within your first three years. Then, as your investment knowledge develops, you will start to gain exposure to clients, attending occasional client meetings and new business presentations with members of the Institutional Clients Department.
Professional Qualifications
You will be required to sit and pass the internationally recognised Chartered Financial Analyst qualification (CFA) Level 1 exam. Levels 2 & 3 are not mandatory, however Baillie Gifford will support you if you wish to sit these exams.
Following completion of CFA Level 1, the Financial Services Authority, our regulatory body, requires you to complete the full Investment Management Certificate (IMC), which you would study through distance learning.
