Overview
Client relationship director Chris Murphy provides an update on recent market volatility.
Chris Murphy: Hello, I'm Chris Murphy from our Local Authority Client Team here at Baillie Gifford.
Like me, I'm sure you've been watching events in investment markets very closely in recent days.
Now, I'll not add to the commentary on short-term market moves, but I do want to share a few comments about what we are doing on your behalf here at Baillie Gifford.
It's a short video. I'll keep my comments high level, and we'll, of course, provide much more detail in your quarterly reports and in our conversations in the coming days and weeks.
Now, these are indeed remarkable times in investment markets. We've seen very sharp falls and sharp rises. Here at Baillie Gifford, we have a long, long history of navigating market turbulence with a steady hand and always with a very clear focus on what will drive investment returns over the long term.
We don't panic when markets fall. And instead, we assess the fundamental growth drivers of each of the companies in your portfolio in the context of a changing, evolving investment environment.
While we absolutely understand that watching market falls can be very unsettling, the resulting dislocation in share prices can present really exciting opportunity for active managers like ourselves.
So, as well as continually testing those investment case for each of the companies in the portfolio, my investment colleagues are really excited about new opportunities that will present.
So, lots and lots of work going on here in the Baillie Gifford office at the moment to identify if now is the right time to be adding exciting growth companies to your portfolio.
Rest assured, we're not making any knee-jerk reactions. Experience and history shows us that level-headed decision-making following market falls can really result in outstanding investment returns over the long term.
If you have questions, you'd like to discuss in more detail, please don't hesitate to get in touch with your contact here at Baillie Gifford.
Thank you for listening.
