Meet the investment team
Gemma is an investment manager in the Long Term Global Growth Team and a manager of the Global Outliers Strategy. She joined Baillie Gifford in 2017. Gemma graduated MA in Modern History from the University of Durham in 2017. Prior to this, she graduated BA (Hons) in History and BA double major in History and Philosophy from Rhodes University in South Africa.
John is an investment manager, and a member of the Long Term Global Growth (LTGG) and China A-Shares teams. He joined Baillie Gifford in 2000 and became a partner in the firm in 2016. Prior to his current role he worked in the Japan and Global Discovery equity teams. John graduated with a MA in Ancient and Modern History from the University of Oxford in 2000.
Michael is an investment manager in the Long Term Global Growth Team. He joined Baillie Gifford in 2013. He is also a CFA Charterholder. Michael graduated MA in Classics from the University of Cambridge in 2007 and gained a PhD in International Relations from the University of St Andrews in 2013.
Mark is an investment manager who joined Baillie Gifford in 1996. He is head of the Long Term Global Growth Team, which he co-founded in 2003. He has previously worked in the US, UK and Japanese Equity teams. He became a partner in 2004. Mark graduated BA in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from the University of Oxford in 1992 and spent a year at Harvard as a Kennedy Scholar in 1993 before completing a PhD in Politics at the University of Edinburgh in 1996.
Tom joined Baillie Gifford in 2000 and became a partner of the firm in 2012. After serving as deputy manager for five years, Tom was appointed joint manager of Scottish Mortgage Investment Trust in 2015. He is also Head of the US Equities Team and a member of the Long Term Global Growth Team. During his time at Baillie Gifford, he has worked in the Developed Asia and UK Equity teams. Tom’s investment interest is focused on high-growth companies both in listed equity markets and as an investor in private companies. He graduated BSc in Computer Science with Mathematics from the University of Edinburgh in 2000.
Linda is an investment manager in the China A Shares and Long Term Global Growth teams. She joined Baillie Gifford in September 2014 and became a partner in May 2022. After five years in Edinburgh, Linda relocated to our Shanghai office in 2019 as head of the Investment Team. She graduated BComm in Accounting and Finance from the University of Auckland, New Zealand, in 2007 and MSc in Finance and Investment from the University of Edinburgh in 2011. Linda is a native mandarin speaker.
Alice is an investment manager on the Long-Term Global Growth Team. She joined Baillie Gifford in 2018 and has worked on the Emerging Markets and Global Alpha equity teams, and the Credit Team. Alice graduated BSc in Political Economy from King’s College London in 2018.
Meet the client team
Scott NisbetScott is an investment specialist with responsibility for overseas clients. He became a partner of the firm in 2007. Scott first joined Baillie Gifford in 1996 and worked in the North American and UK Investment Teams until 2003, when he moved to the Clients Department. He graduated MA in English Literature and French from the University of Edinburgh and gained a Post Graduate Diploma in Translation from the University of Paris.
Tim joined Baillie Gifford in 2007 and became a partner of the firm in 2016. He is an investment specialist, overseeing the institutional client base that invests in Long Term Global Growth, one of Baillie Gifford’s most concentrated equity strategies with a focus on transformational payoffs. He also leads the broader client specialist ecosystem at Baillie Gifford. In recent years, Tim has been closely involved with the development of Baillie Gifford’s Shanghai office. Prior to joining the firm, Tim joined Arthur Anderson in 2000 before moving to AT Kearney where he managed a number of private equity projects. Tim graduated MEng in Aeronautical Engineering from the University of Bristol in 1999.
Tatjana joined Baillie Gifford in 2015 and is an investment specialist in the Clients Department, responsible for servicing clients invested in Long Term Global Growth. Before Baillie Gifford, she spent three years fundraising for charities in Edinburgh. Tatjana began her career working in finance in both Investment Banking and Equities in New York and London. She graduated BA in Psychology from Yale University, MA in Developmental Psychology from Columbia University and gained an MBA from Harvard.
Stewart is a investment specialist for Long Term Global Growth, one of Baillie Gifford’s most concentrated Equity strategies with a focus on transformational payoffs. He joined Baillie Gifford in 2008. Stewart graduated BA in Economics from the University of Stirling in 2006 and MSc in Economics (Finance), on the Scottish Graduate Programme in Economics, from the University of Edinburgh in 2008
Jonny is a director and investment specialist, working primarily on the Long Term Global Growth strategy in which he is a member of the Product Group. Prior to joining Baillie Gifford in 2016, Jonny worked on international policy for over eight years at the OECD in Paris, notably on responsible business conduct and sustainability. Jonny graduated MA in Geography from the University of St Andrews in 2005 followed by MA in Contemporary European Studies from the University of Bath and Sciences Po in Paris in 2007.
Carla is an investment specialist in the Long Term Global Growth Team. She joined Baillie Gifford in 2021. Before joining Baillie Gifford, Carla was an Assistant Manager in the Transaction Services Team for KPMG. Carla graduated MA (Hons) in International Relations from the University of St Andrews in 2017 and qualified as a Chartered Accountant with the ICAS in 2021.
