1. Objective

The Managed Fund aims to produce capital growth, over the long term. It will do this by investing in any economic sector worldwide. Investment will mainly be in shares of companies, bonds, cash and other funds which may include those managed or operated by Baillie Gifford. Derivatives, which are a type of financial contract, may be used to protect or increase the value of the Fund. This means the Fund is exposed to foreign currencies. Derivatives may be used for investment purposes as well as for efficient portfolio management.

The value of investments and any income from them may go down as well as up and you or your client may not get back the amount originally invested.

You may like to know that the Baillie Gifford Managed Fund has been recently promoted by Hargreaves Lansdown into their top Wealth 150 Plus, which is their list of elite funds as judged by their research analysts. Below is a brief summary of the fund’s most obvious features.

The Baillie Gifford Managed Fund has been around for over 25 years. It is a one stop shop for any investor and comes at a conspicuously low cost - 0.43%* is the ongoing charge. We benchmark ourselves against the sector (The Investment Association Mixed Investment 40% - 85% Shares Sector) and more details on the fund, including the top ten holdings and performance information, can be seen on the latest factsheet. We have a team of managers running the fund, drawn from our regional investment desks and complemented by fixed interest experts. They put their best ideas into the fund and their individual enthusiasms will drive asset allocation within the funds. So if, for example, the American desk is bullish on US stocks we would expect to see an overweight position in the USA develop. We are bottom-up stock pickers who invest in companies, not markets. We are growth investors who take a truly long-term view – five to 10 years as reflected in our turnover. We are active investors with a consequently high active share. The fund clearly has an equity bias but bonds and cash can have their own individual attractions. Investment costs are kept low and we believe the Managed Fund could be the only investment you may ever need however, if in doubt, please seek financial advice.
