Baillie Gifford has been helping charities, endowments and foundations meet their investment objectives for over fifty years. We aim to build long term relationships, built on superior investment returns and high levels of client service, and our first charity client remains a client today.
We recognise that charity clients have specific requirements and varied priorities, and we offer a wide range of investment strategies and approaches to address our clients’ needs. Some appoint us for specialist global equity or multi asset mandates, whilst others invest in a combination of strategies to meet their overall objectives.
All our investment offerings are underpinned by our long term approach to investment and this, together with our focus on building lasting relationships, is made possible by our stability as a partnership, wholly owned by partners who work in the firm.
We emphasise good stewardship and investing for sustainable growth in all that we do, and also offer a range of approaches with a particular emphasis on investing ethically, responsibly and with impact, in line with our clients’ requirements. A number of our strategies are introduced below and our full fund range can be accessed via the menu tab above.
Please contact Anthony Dickson or Rebecca Fenton who would be delighted to speak to you about how we can help meet your investment requirements.

TOTAL RETURN
Many charities have a total return approach and a long term perspective. Baillie Gifford’s approach to investment is ideally suited to such clients. We are long term, growth investors, and our philosophy and approach have delivered superior performance for our clients over time. We offer a range of investment strategies targeting attractive long term returns, and some also have further targets relating to areas such as volatility or income.
INCOME
At Baillie Gifford we emphasise long term income not short term yield. For equity income portfolios, we believe that it is essential to invest across the broadest opportunity set, and to seek both dependability and growth at the stock level in order to deliver the dependability of income and growth in income and capital that our clients seek. We also emphasise the importance of diversification, both within and across asset classes, and offer a range of equity and multi asset funds for income focussed clients.
RESPONSIBLE AND IMPACT INVESTMENT
We believe there is strong alignment between good Environmental, Social and Governance practices and achieving the best investment returns for our clients over time. Furthermore, we understand that many charity clients have additional requirements, ranging from excluding certain areas from which they do not wish to profit, through to aligning profit with purpose in areas such as Healthcare, to investing in a way which prioritises assisting the transition to a low carbon economy. Many of our strategies are well aligned with the requirements of such clients.
We have been signatories of the UN Principles of Responsible Investment since 2007 (receiving the top rating in many areas), are signatories of the UK Stewardship Code and aim to contribute to the development of industry best practice.
