About the programme

You won’t just follow technical trends closely; we’ll help you get to the point where you can lead on them. Over approximately two years, you will rotate across a range of technology teams within our Shared Services function, with a focus on one of the three departments within. Whether immersed in developing new applications or optimising our enterprise IT, you'll receive comprehensive training and support to broaden your skills and discover your future potential. After your training, you’ll hit the ground running, working on real-life projects and business demands focused on developing new applications or optimising our enterprise IT.

What does the job involve?

You’ll use a range of technologies to build solutions for the business. Working closely with teams across the organisation, you’ll understand their needs and collaborate with colleagues to develop and maintain systems and applications.

You’ll work with modern frameworks and platforms, applying engineering best practices in a real-world context.

How is the programme structured?

Your journey will be unique to you and driven by your desire for a career in Cloud, Infrastructure & Security, Application Development & Enablement or Innovation. The business needs at the time will also factor into your journey. Regardless of the route taken, you will always be adding value and learning through challenging work focused on meeting the needs of our internal clients.

At the point of applying, you will be asked to confirm where your preference sits between Cloud, Infrastructure & Security, Innovation or Application Development & Enablement. However, Baillie Gifford will decide where we feel your skills and strengths would be best placed. This would be discussed with you before an offer to join us is extended.

Immersive training

Your journey starts with immersive training. This foundational period equips you with the knowledge and skills you need to succeed by familiarising you with our tech stack and building your business understanding. We’ll introduce you to our programming languages, databases and cloud technologies and give you greater insight into our DevOps processes.

Rotational placements

Around six months into the programme, you experience a series of two to six-month placements, each in a different Technical team. You will rotate through a variety of areas, gaining a broader understanding of how our technology landscape works.
