Our Information Systems teams underpin everything we do at Baillie Gifford. We know technology never stands still, and neither do we. As the largest department in the firm, we continually push to find better, more effective solutions for every business need. Today, we continue this forward-thinking approach by closely following technical trends.

About the programme

Technology Solutions is a two-year rotational programme to develop you as our technologists and team leaders of our future. It is designed to give you an understanding of the department, the different teams that operate within it, and the range of technologies we use. So, whether you are immersed in the development of new applications or in the optimisation of our enterprise IT, you'll receive comprehensive training and support to broaden your skills and discover your future potential.

What does the job involve?

Join us on our Technology Solutions training programme, and you'll work with cutting-edge technology to create new business solutions. You'll collaborate with internal clients across the firm to fully understand what they need, then work in your team and with other Information Systems colleagues to create technical systems and applications that deliver real results.

How is the programme structured?

Immersive training

Your journey will begin with an immersive period of training familiarising you with our tech stack, building business understanding and equipping you with the knowledge and skills you will need to succeed. We'll introduce you to our programming languages, databases and cloud technologies, as well as our DevOps processes.

Rotational placements

Around six months into the programme, you'll begin a series of 2- to 6-month placements, each in a different Information Systems team. We rotate you around a variety of areas to provide a wider understanding of the workings of our technology landscape.

  • User experience and interaction
  • Software testing
  • Database and platform management
  • Full stack development
  • Business analysis
  • DevOps
  • Architecture
  • Infrastructure platforms
  • Cyber security operations
  • Servers storage and virtualisation
  • Service desk / application support
  • Data centre / networking

Key learnings

The core programme will bring graduates from all areas of focus together for the first year, before offering a range of more specialist placements.

A solid grounding and understanding of Baillie Gifford, including:

  • Investments, Clients, and Technologies.
  • Build relevant technical, cloud first, skills and knowledge.
  • You will join a collaborative environment where you can give your own opinions, propose solutions and ask challenging questions.
  • Monthly career checkpoints.
  • A solid understanding of the existing technology estate.
  • Opportunity to develop business relationships across the firm.
  • An insight into Agile Project roles, e.g. Business Analyst and Project Manager.

Training and development

Whether you are immersed in the development of new applications or in the optimisation of our enterprise IT, you'll join us in a permanent role from day one, receive the necessary training to broaden your skills and discover your future potential.

Technical skills

Join us on our Technology Solutions training programme, and you’ll work with cutting-edge technology to create new business solutions. You’ll collaborate with internal clients across the firm to fully understand what they need, then work in your team and with other Information Systems colleagues to create technical systems and applications that deliver real results.

Some of the key technologies you could be exposed to include Microsoft .Net Core, Angular, VxRail, Palo Alto and Microsoft 365.

Professional skills

It's not just about developing your technical skills. Your two years on the programme will be underpinned by a structured framework of professional skills training. In addition you’ll have ongoing opportunities to learn and progress through webinars, mentorship and our online learning platforms such as Pluralsight and A Cloud Guru.

Professional qualification

To compliment your learning, there will be a variety of opportunities to gain an understanding of the investment management industry. In addition, you will have the opportunity to complete the Investment Operations Certificate qualification.

Our graduates get involved in real work as early as possible. We want them talking to people across the business, finding out what they need from their technology and creating imaginative solutions that really deliver.
